“Give a Man a Fish and you Feed Him for a Day.
Teach a Man to Fish and you Feed Him for a Lifetime.”
— Chinese Proverb
At Hooked on Healing 423, we do more than Feed Youth.
We teach Survival, Self-worth, and Real-Life Skills that Last Forever.
6:00 AM - Wake-Up & Morning Reflection
A peaceful start with breathing, stretching, and intention-setting.
Campers check in using a “Feelings Tracker” to name their emotions before the day begins.
6:45 AM - Breakfast
Nutritious Meals prepared by our Camp Cooks.
This is also time for gratitude and morning encouragement.
7:20 AM - Group Lodge Huddle Camp
Huddle to set the tone for the day.
Includes group affirmations, safety reminders, and schedule walkthrough.
7:30 AM - Fishing & Outdoor Survival Training
Campers are divided into small Teams of 5 — each led by a Captain and a Mentor.
They learn how to Fish, Clean, and Cook their own Catch.
Campers leave with survival knowledge and their own gear.
10:00 AM - Healing Circle & Journaling
Guided journaling using emotion wheels and vocabulary word banks. Clinical team members are present
during this time, gently observing for unmet emotional or social needs.
This allows us to tailor support, referrals, and care — all while keeping campers in a safe, expressive space.
11:00 AM - Arts & Crafts + Photography
Creative expression through drawing, painting, and mixed media.
Campers also take portraits during “Photography Day” to document their growth.
Select Art will be featured in the Published Book.
12:00 PM - Lunch & Peer Connection Time
Shared meals followed by small group table talks — building trust, empathy, and support.
1:00 PM - The Business of Fishing
Campers learn the economics of fishing: bartering, budgeting, marketing, and teamwork.
They’ll prepare to sell, promote, and serve at the Fish Fry Finale — gaining entrepreneurship skills they’ll carry for life.
2:30 PM - Guest Speakers & Team Building Activities
Campers connect with veterans, licensed nurses, and community leaders who share real-life stories of resilience.
Many of our mentors have experienced trauma firsthand — including combat PTSD — and are now using that strength to guide others.
This creates a powerful mirror for youth facing community violence, helping them feel seen, heard, and
never alone. Together, they build bridges between generations of survivors.
4:00 PM - Wash-Up / Mindfulness Hour
Quiet reflection, self-care, rest, or reading. No screens — just presence. Reinforces emotional regulation and decompressing.
5:00 PM - Dinner / Community Kitchen & Life Talks
No electronics allowed. Campers connect through shared recipes, cooking, storytelling, and old-school
conversations that feed both belly and soul.
6:00 PM - Evening Activity Rotation
Skits, spoken word, music, photo showcases, or outdoor reflections.
This is creative release time, celebrating who they are and what they’re becoming.
8:30 PM - Gratitude Practice & Lights Out
Campers write down one thing they’re grateful for.
Lights dim.
Peace and protection close the day.
At Hooked on Healing 423, our team includes veterans and trauma-trained military mentors who understand the weight of hypervigilance, loss, and survival.
These mentors work alongside licensed clinicians and counselors to guide our youth — many of whom face daily violence, grief, and instability in their own neighborhoods.
Together, they share coping tools, leadership, emotional regulation, and the hard-earned wisdom of post-traumatic growth.
Campers and veterans find common ground in their stories — and leave knowing they are never alone in their healing.
While campers focus on creativity, connection, and courage — our licensed clinical team quietly ensures their deeper needs are not missed.
Throughout the camp experience, our trauma-informed clinicians are trained to observe and respond to emotional and social needs.
Whether a camper is navigating grief, food insecurity, housing instability, or trauma, we identify those needs early — and connect families to community partners, school counselors, or extended support when needed.
This isn’t just a camp. It’s a healing network.
